Postgraduate Taught Academic & Welfare Officer (Engineering)

Hello everyone! My name is Hannah, and I’m an MSc student in the AI Applications and Innovation program. I’m running to be a Postgraduate Taught AWO because I want to be your biggest advocate during your time at Imperial. Throughout the year, I will focus on improving academic transparency across Engineering departments and bolstering resources for international students before and during their time at Imperial.

Coming to Imperial, I noticed that my coursemates were struggling to understand the module specifications due to vague descriptions on our course website. As a result, many of us did not understand what kind of program they were entering until they arrived on campus. As an AWO, I want to investigate whether this pattern is prevalent across Engineering departments and enact policies that give ample resources to prospective postgraduate students.

In my conversations with other international students, I also realized that we all went through similar issues: CAS/visa delays, feeling alone in a new city, and figuring out our future after our postgraduate program. These issues require proactive solutions, and as an AWO, I want to focus on bolstering existing Imperial resources and making them more visible to international students.

When I was an undergraduate at the University of Pennsylvania, I was a student government representative who focused on academic and well-being advocacy. The driving force behind my involvement was simple: to create the best possible experience for everyone. This year, I intend to bring that same passion to the Imperial postgraduate student body.
