Isaac Cowley
Hello, my name is Isaac and I am in my final year. The role of Academic Officer for Clinical Years has the important task of being responsible for ensuring you feel ready for your clinical exams, by organising mocks. Using my own experience of OSCE and PACES, I am aware of what is required to deliver these to the best standard for you. Also, having previously been the Club Captain of Rowing, I have direct, hands on experience of overseeing the organisation of the club's mock CPA, OSCE, PACES and finals - all of which were highly effective and representative of the actual exam.
Furthermore, I would love the opportunity to represent the student voice, and bring your problems experienced on placement to faculty's attention so they can be rectified. I hope to bring attention to a few issues I feel need addressing:
- Touchpoints: These seem to offer limited function to students, instead feeling like attendance checks. I would seek to have them changed/removed to something more beneficial for students.
- Making mocks representative: Last year there was a distinct difference in difficulty between PACES mock and the summative. I will aim to ensure it is more representative this year.
- Timetables: I would push for placement timetables to be sent out far earlier than they currently are, hopefully setting a minimum allowed notice period. 3-4 days notice is not sufficient as is currently common practice.
These are only a few of many issues that whilst not mentioned, I would still advocate for.
