ICSMSU: Academic Officer for Clinical Years

Hi, I'm Nithil, a 4th year medic running to be your AOCY! Clinical years are what every medical student looks forward to - spending time on placement, interacting with patients and getting hands-on. But more often than not, placements feel inconsistent, feedback goes nowhere, and mocks don’t tend to reflect real exams. As a now 4th year, I've experienced this first hand in my first clinical year. That's why I’m running for AOCY: to make the clinical experience more structured, collaborative, and genuinely useful.

My key aims:
1. Revamp the rep structure: Ensure each rotation has a dedicated rep feeding into the main yearwide academic rep network, so specific issues are raised quickly and effectively.
2. Strengthen feedback systems: Refine the SSLG process to improve transparency and ensure outcomes have greater clarity are clearly communicated to students.
3. Strengthen and streamline the mock OSCE process: Partner with Faculty to ensure stronger support and smoother delivery of mock OSCEs. Form a shared OSCE coordination team to bring societies together, standardise logistics and case quality, and ensure sessions are well-organised and reflective of Finals standards.
4. Expand Finals and PACES support: Improve access to teaching and mock practice through centralised resources, society collaboration, and faculty-led support sessions.

If elected, I’ll be a proactive and approachable AOCY who puts in 100% and strives to ensure meaningful and useful change, whilst always listening to your voice. Together, we can make the clinical years more cohesive, helpful and most importantly, more enjoyable!!
