Hi everyone! I'm Sam Li, a first-year JMC student, and I'm running for the position of Academic Representative because I want to make our behemoth of a course as streamlined and enjoyable as possible. We all know JMC's the best course at Imperial, but it's also the busiest - that's why I believe clear communication and strong representation will make a huge difference.
If elected, I would focus on three main objectives:
- Communication: making sure feedback from students reaches lecturers and course organisers without getting diluted, and that updates are returned quickly and clearly.
- Co-ordination: ensuring that information can flow freely between the Maths and CS departments, so we don't miss out on fun topics or get horrible clashes for lectures/deadlines.
- Collaboation: building a friendly, collaborative environment where everyone can share their thoughts and ideas freely, i.e. via polls, group chats, or feedback sessions.
As we're on basically the only joint undergrad course at Imperial, I think focusing on these goals will really improve our time here, especially as the heat begins to pick up near exams.
Having previously led teams for competitions, and served on a school council along with lots of charity work, I've learned how to communicate effectively, balance different opinions, and turn feedback into tangible results. I'm also very friendly and approachable, so I hope you can all come to me if you need anything.
