Aleeza Ahmed
Hello! My name is Aleeza and I'm running to be your Year 1 Academic Representative.
Being both from England and having lived half my life in Dubai, my own learning experience combines that of home and international students, so I've had a taste of both worlds. With my friends from school being from many countries around the world, I've been exposed to lots of different learning styles, which I'm sure is reflected at Imperial. My leadership roles at school, including being the Head of Maths Society, the largest academic society at my school, and a House Representative, have given me the confidence to easily voice concerns and suggestions. I love to chat, so if you have anything to share, I'm happy to hear it.
My main forms of communication are via whatsapp or in-person, but I also aim to have drop-in sessions and monthly surveys. One of my ideas is to make our study groups more interactive, so groups can share their problem areas with their GTA in advance, and, once the exercises have been checked, students could talk about any related research they've done. Another goal is to create more regular feedback channels between students and lecturers, so we have a better chance to improve, and a more user-friendly one-stop-shop for resources than the current Bioengineering bible, with possible video tutorials. Another aim is to host subject competitions, increasing links with other universities' bioengineering departments, so we can meet more people in the bioengineering community.
