Hi there! I’m Ian and I’m running for VP.
TL;DR: Promote career building, educational initiatives, community & outreach
Throughout the past year serving as speaker officer, I’ve experienced the impact OrthoSoc can have in giving wings to student aspirations. As our community continues to grow, so will our logistical challenges. Serving as VP, the organizational backbone of OrthoSoc, will allow me to facilitate a cohesive and meaningful experience for all.
Aims:
- Promote Career-building
- Launch designated Academic Calendar for orthopaedic research conference dates, ticket sales, and abstract submission in London 2025-26
- Introduce orthopaedic mentorship scheme connecting students with clinicians
- Educational Initiatives
- Introduce surgical skills and simulation workshops throughout the academic year
- Q&A based sessions for students to get career guidance
- Community & Outreach
- Rehabilitation & Sports Medicine Collabs – Partnering with physiotherapy and sports medicine groups to explore post-surgical rehabilitation.
- Diversity in Orthopaedics – Panel discussions on improving representation in the specialty.
- Outreach to Schools – Promoting orthopaedics and STEM careers to younger students through workshops and talks.
Qualifications:
- 4 yrs+ teaching experience for MedEd, private tutoring, charity organizations - equipped me with insight to tailor programs for students to learn best
- VRiMS (Virtual Reality in Medicine and Surgery)/RespSoc+SORA representative - extensive experience organizing 15+ conferences/workshops
- OrthoSoc Speaker Officer - acquired wide network of Orthopaedic professionals and academics in London using proven outreach methods
I’m confident my transferable qualities, combined with the insight into the OrthoSoc operational framework I’ve developed as speaker officer, make me the ideal candidate for this position.
