Respiratory Medicine: Academic Officer (Clinical Years)

Hi! I am Suraubi and I am honoured to share my manifesto for the position of academic officer for clinical years. Respiratory medicine is at the heart of clinical practice and has achieved huge medical breakthroughs in the past years, leading to immense advancements in management and prognosis of respiratory conditions.

As JAS Phase 1b academic lead, I have played a key role in organising and ensuring tutorials were delivered effectively – selecting appropriately qualified tutors, liaising with them and structuring engaging sessions with captivating presentations to accommodate majority of students was a rewarding experience and gave me a huge insight into management.

My vision for Respiratory Medicine:

  • Structured case-based tutorials coverings key clinical presentations needed for the UKMLA
  • Tutorials on CXR interpretation as I have identified this is a topic which most students struggle with
  • Mock OSCE/ PACES stations with student-led feedback on respiratory history-taking and examination
  • Respiratory tutorials along with an SBA/ VSAQ series

With my experience in academic leadership, event organisation and student engagement, I am committed to making Respiratory Medicine Society a crucial resource for clinical year students. By delivering high quality teaching and promoting respiratory understanding, I hope to equip students with the knowledge and confidence they require to excel in Respiratory Medicine!
