Respiratory Medicine: Academic Officer (Early Years)

Hello! My name is Vaishally, and I am excited to be running for the role of Respiratory Medicine Society Academic Officer. Respiratory medicine is a fundamental part of the medical curriculum, but it can be challenging without structured guidance. My goal is to make learning respiratory medicine more accessible and engaging for students at all levels.

As a subcommittee member for the London Respiratory Conference, I gained experience in organising academic events and working with experts in the field. This role strengthened my ability to plan and deliver educational content, and my experience coordinating with speakers and managing logistics will allow me to bring high-quality teaching sessions to the society.

If elected,

  • I will contribute to a Respiratory Medicine Teaching Series, focusing on early-year students who may struggle with the basics. These sessions will cover essential topics like respiratory physiology, common conditions, and case-based discussions.
  • I will also introduce mock exam revision sessions tailored to respiratory medicine questions, helping students feel more confident ahead of exams.
  • Additionally, I plan to organise X-ray and imaging tutorials, where students can gain hands-on experience in interpreting chest X-rays and other diagnostic tools under expert guidance.

I believe my experience in academic event planning, understanding of student needs, and passion for respiratory medicine make me well-suited for this role. I am committed to ensuring the Respiratory Medicine Society provides the best support for students. I would love the opportunity to bring these ideas to life with your support.
