Gastroenterology & Hepatology : Event Officer

Hi everyone! My name is Hari, and I am a third-year medical student running for Events Officer for Gastroenterology and Hepatology Society.

Having gone through my placements in gastroenterology, I have developed a deep-rooted passion and a commitment to advancing knowledge in this field. I aspire to push the society to new heights of excellence and innovation, and some of the event ideas I have include:

  1. Establishing a gastroenterology conference where students can hear from leading gastroenterologists and attend relevant workshops
  2. Creating a mentorship scheme linking students with experienced consultants or registrars
  3. Running tutorials on gastroenterology topics for those in early years, and collaborating with other societies to organize mock CPAs and OSCEs
  4. Implementing a journal club where members can hear from researchers about their work
  5. Starting a guest speaker series that would serve as career guidance for members

I believe I am well-suited to the role having developed communication, teamworking and organisation skills as Deputy BMA Rep this year. I also took part in the Young Enterprise scheme, where I developed my leadership skills and led my team to win best Journey Award at the South London finals. This year in my roles as Secretary of Indian Society & SORA, I developed my skills involved in managing logistics and helping coordinating events, and as part of SORA I chaired an intercalated PhD conference and gained experience with organising conferences.

Thank you so much for your support!
