Subanu Suthakaran

Hi! I am Subanu, a third year medic, and I am running to be Events Officer for the Gastroenterology and Hepatology society :))

Having had a lot of exposure to gastroenterology through placement, I’ve developed a strong interest in the specialty, because of the fascinating conditions it encompasses and the inspiring role models I’ve met. As Events Officer, I’d be committed to organising more events for the society, making the most of the incredible resources available at Imperial & beyond.

In my previous roles such as subcommittee head for my local Tamil charity, I’ve organised several events, such as alumnae gatherings and fundraisers, where I gained experience in securing sponsorships, networking, and managing large teams. I’m a reliable and hard-working individual who thrives in collaborative environments and someone you can count on to run unique, memorable events.

Some ideas I am passionate about for the upcoming year include:

1. Imperial’s first-ever Gastroenterology and Hepatology Conference, featuring talks from leading experts and interactive workshops.
2. A student-led Journal Club open to all years, encouraging discussions on current research in the field.
3. An academic tutorial series helping younger years navigate the wide range of conditions within gastroenterology.
4. A regular external speaker series, bringing fresh perspectives and knowledge to the society.

It’s time to revive Gastro and Hep and I am committed to making this happen! I can’t wait to collaborate with the publicity team and other members to bring these exciting projects to life.
