Ravit Dewan

Hi everyone! My name is Ravit. I'm a third-year, and I am excited to apply for the role of Events Officer for the Gastroenterology & Hepatology Society.

I have a strong interest in gastroenterology and hepatology and have built valuable connections with specialists during gastro placements. My passion for research has led me to undertake literature reviews in surgery, and I am eager to expand this into the field of gastroenterology by helping organise research-focused events.

Beyond academics, I have extensive experience in society event management. As a Surgsoc subcommittee member, I played a key role in running large-scale events such as the Trauma Conference and CPA Mocks, helping with logistics, setup, and coordinating attendees. These experiences gave me firsthand insight into event planning, liaising with speakers, and ensuring smooth execution. I also learnt how committee members work with the student union to secure venues and funding—essential skills for this role.

Additionally, through my work with StreetDoctors, I have developed strong time management and organisational skills during school visits, which will be invaluable in coordinating engaging events for the society.

If elected, I hope to introduce a Gastroenterology Portfolio & Networking Event, where students can gain guidance from doctors who recently secured training posts. I would also love to help organise a joint event with SurgSoc focusing on key gastroenterological procedures, such as laparoscopic skills and bowel anastomoses.
