Badminton: Social Captain

Badminton has been one of the best parts of my time at Imperial.

I’ve made great friends, gotten better at the sport, and even played as two people in a match!

Going on tour to Morocco made me realize just how much this sport can bring people together, and I want to help make badminton even more social, inclusive, and fun for everyone.

As Social Captain, I’d focus on making sure everyone feels part of the team, whether they regularly come to social sessions or are just starting out. I want to introduce a court system so players can find people their level and get good, competitive games. Off the court, I’d love to plan more socials, both nights out and just casual meet-ups, so we can all get to know each other outside badminton :)

I’m always at social sessions, and with the most rubbers in the league, I've definitely played a lot for the social team. My goal for next year would be to get more girls who play well to join the team to solve our chronic girl shortage. I would also actually kick people out who haven't signed up for social sessions, as recently we've been having 35+ people, so its been tricky to get on-court time.

Being part of badminton this year has made me realise how much this sport can bring people together. I've made such a good group of friends and I want to create this environment for everyone on the social team.
