Design Engineering: Talks Manager

Hi guys! My name's Fiona, I'm from Shanghai and currently am in DE1.

Design Engineering is a degree for sharp minds who thrive on creation, adaptation, and constant learning. We fuse disciplines to develop innovative solutions, taking inspiration from the most unexpected places. This makes our department diverse, with interests spanning from graphic design to robotics.

As Talks Manager, I aim to make the most of this vast spectrum of expertise by organizing engaging discussions with peers, alumni, faculty, and industry leaders across fields. These talks will be where people share what they are truly passionate about—and hopefully their passion can ignite curiosity in you. It's an opportunity to explore new perspectives, uncover career paths, and build valuable connections that can shape your future.

Beyond technicalities, I also want to explore the humanities of engineering—the ethical and moral dimensions of our work. From discussions on AI ethics to the philosophy of design, these talks will help us become more conscious engineers who understand not just how to build, but also why and for whom.

Key Plans:

  1. Alumni Talks – Invite graduates back to Dyson to share how their journeys unfolded beyond Deseng.
  2. Panel Discussions – Bring together professors and industry leaders to discuss the most frontier of developments, like AI or neurotech.
  3. Hybrid Talks– Organize interactive events, like live urban design talks while exploring key locations across London.

By creating a dynamic space for conversation, reflection, and discovery, I hope to create truly meaningful experiences for each one of you.
