Baking: Treasurer

Hi guys!

I'm Ben, I'm a second year PhD student in the NHLI and I'm running to be your next Treasurer.

I'm keen to get involved with the committee as I'm an avid baker myself and I think it's a nice, friendly activity that anyone can enjoy!

But putting on good events requires effective planning! I think it's key to provide a steady stream of well-planned (and financed) events throughout the year to maintain engagement, and also make sure that the following committee starts with some momentum rather than picking up the pieces.

In my undergraduate I was Treasurer and then President of the Chemistry society, so that's why I'm keen to do similar work here. In those two years, I designed and looked after a budget of £18,000 that was reserved mostly for a Christmas dinner and the department's graduation dinner, and both of these required catering for over 200 people. During my terms, I also raised £8000 in sponsorship which allowed us to run several other events throughout the two years and end my stint with more spending money than we started with.

It also means I'm familiar with the Union's financial processes, so I've got experience with dealing with sales invoices and POs etc. which are important for day-to-day financial running of the society.

I'd love to help out and I'm hoping we can find a way to have plenty of money for events!
