Clinical Genetics: President

Hi, I’m Arushi, a 2nd year medical student, and I am excited to run for president of Clinical Genetics society!

I have always been interested in genetics and the rapid advancements in the field- I believe clinical genetics has incredible scope for research, technological development and multidisciplinary collaboration, which is exactly what I want to bring to the society.

Over the past couple years, I have engaged in secondary research on genetic disorders underpinning intellectual disability and done an internship on genome mapping. I have been part of the paediatrics conference sub committee, and held roles in two of the biggest cultural societies at Imperial- these positions have shown me the level of commitment, coordination and teamwork required to organise successful events.

As president, I aim to:

  • Bring back the flagship conference, with a panel of inspiring speakers and engaging workshops for students to get introduced to the field - I hope to get accreditation and collaborate with other genetics societies
  • Start a social media series or bulletin with short posts about the latest genetic discoveries and advancements for followers to stay up to date, in the simplest way possible
  • Hold networking events to connect interested students and keen professors - paving way for research collaborations
  • Organise a multi-disciplinary workshop for different students (med, bio-med, engineering, CS, etc.) to come together and collaborate on a clinical genetics project

I’m really fascinated by genetics and I’m eager to give others an opportunity to explore their curiosity and interests.
