Hi there! I’m Ian and I’m running for Academic Officer.
TL;DR: Help students get involved with research, improve OSCE/PACES/CPA tutorials, fix previous problems
AMSA’s unwavering support towards my exploration of the academics of medicine brought my 2nd year at AMSA to life. Taking on the mantle of academic officer will allow me to give back to the AMSA community in the way I’m best suited.
Aims:
- Promote Career-building
- Introduce specialty-specific mentorship scheme connecting students with clinicians
- Launch designated academic calendar for research conference dates, ticket sales, and abstract submission in London 2025-26
- Improve Tutorials
- “Reverse OSCE” workshops - students play the role of examiner
- Introduce high yield Anki deck for each year-group using previous years’ exam data
- Fix Last 3 Years’ Problems
- Time-intensive role - early recruitment & delegation of AMSA academic subcommittee
- Teaching session non-attendance - completion certificate incentive for participants, set up automated reminders
- Finding/maintaining clinician contacts - contribute my extensive network of 50+ senior clinicians/researchers to the AMSA contact bank
- Policies I’ll continue
- Conduct AMSA mocks independently from ICSMSU
- Automate mock logistics (timekeeping, allocations) using AMSA’s exclusive “Mockomatic” app
Qualifications:
- AMSEP Officer - developed communication skills through liaising with international delegates successfully organize an exchange to our first choice destination
- VRiMS (Virtual Reality in Medicine and Surgery)/Ortho+Resp+SORA representative - extensive experience organizing 15+ conferences/workshops
- 4 yrs+ teaching experience for MedEd, private tutoring, charity organizations - equipped me with insight to tailor programs for students to learn best
