Psychiatry: Open Minds Programme Lead

Hi everyone,
I'm Harshini, a first-year medical student, and I would love to be Psychsoc’s Open Minds Programme Lead!

It is widely publicised that mental health problems among young people are continuously on the rise. As my school's Student Council Leader last year I was able to hear firsthand about the various mental health struggles of many students which reinforced just how pressing this matter is. I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to be your Open Minds Programme Lead to extend my capacity to help these young people beyond just conversations through crafting engaging workshops and teaching sessions. I want to use the workshops to engage young people in the mental health discussion in a safe, interactive environment - equipping them with the knowledge and confidence to look after their mental wellbeing.

This particular role within the society combines my passion for volunteering and teaching, which I have dedicated time to in previous commitments. Whether working as a tutor or a singing teacher, volunteering as part of the Playteam, or delivering a talk as part of my school’s lecture series, working with young people is something I have always found very fulfilling and meaningful.

Mental health continues to be overlooked but I am dedicated to bringing it to the forefront through the Open Minds programme.

Thank you :)
