Going to medical school can be overwhelming. You experience one of the greatest imposter syndromes, constant self-doubt, and confusion about which specialty to pick. I have experienced this firsthand, as have most of us. I have found that cardiovascular medicine is a field that makes you think critically. It requires a deep understanding of complex conditions, collaboration, and the ability to adapt in a rapidly evolving environment.
As Cardiovascular Head of Education and Research, I want to make this career path clearer and more accessible for students by:
- Building valuable skills: Being able to build skills to handle time pressure, coordination, and build confidence by implementing case discussions, practical workshops, and research-focused training.
- Providing career guidance: Allowing students to network with cardiovascular medicine doctors or other professionals by organising talks and workshops, allowing you to explore insights about the career and their journey, and providing networking opportunities.
- Providing informational resources: Providing clearer and more accessible information on resources to understand cardiovascular diseases, treatment options, and the latest research developments.
- Providing opportunities to work with researchers: Offering research collaboration and finding sources that can help you initiate a research paper.
In cardiovascular medicine, you don’t only just deal with heart disease; it also requires you to understand complex patient needs, advance research, and be able to work with experts across multiple specialties.
