Malaysian: Welfare Officer

Hi everyone, I'm Cheng Xin Cheong, and I'm excited to run for the position of Welfare Officer in ICUMS.

A few months ago, I felt nervous about starting university in a new country and adapting to a different lifestyle. Thanks to ICUMS, I found a second home and met wonderful people. Their support certainly eased my homesickness and filled my university life with joy. Inspired by all the love I received from this community, I aspire to become your Welfare Officer, driven by a heartfelt desire to provide that same warmth and support to all incoming students. My goal is to ensure that ICUMS feels like a welcoming and comfortable home for everyone.

As your Welfare Officer, I plan to:

1) Support freshers with better guidance and resources, including an improved e-Guidebook and introductions to campus

To offer comprehensive assistance to freshers as they transition into university

2) Organise more inclusive activities like board games and movie nights

To promote social connections and foster a warm and welcoming community

3) Enhance the Buddy Family System

To strengthen bonds among each family

4) Prioritise student mental health, especially during exam seasons, with support initiatives

To relieve stress and focus on well-being

5) Increase the number of events targeted towards seniors

To encourage more seniors to participate and provide opportunities for social interaction
