Aishah Anjum
Hi, my name is Aishah and I’m a second-year medical student running for a general committee role in the Psychiatry Society!
My passion for psychiatry comes from personal experience in dealing with mental health conditions - both in my own life and within my family. Having witnessed the effects first-hand, this means I’ve developed a deep appreciation for the importance of a speciality like psychiatry.
Despite psychiatry’s essentiality, I also believe it is often underrepresented as a profession and even viewed as “not true medicine” compared to other medical fields. I want to help highlight psychiatry’s crucial role in healthcare, reduce the stigma around mental health, and encourage more students to explore this vital discipline.
My experience in having multiple roles, such as:
- SFP Lead for SORA,
- Secretary for both NeuroSoc and EndoSoc,
- Horizons Departmental Rep and Spanish Languages Rep,
has allowed me to develop a wide repertoire of organisational, communication, and leadership skills. I am eager to utilise these in a role such as general committee member, so that I can assist with multiple aspects, from event planning to supporting our members.
If elected as part of the committee, I would love to contribute to Psychiatry Society’s efforts in raising awareness about mental health and the value of this speciality. In particular, I am very keen to get involved in supporting novel schemes such as the Psychstart Mentorship programme, which I think is an incredible opportunity for students.
I would massively appreciate your vote!
Thank you!
