Elakya Saravanakumar

Hi, my name is Elakya, I’m a third-year medical student and I am running for the role of Vice Chair of ICSM Ophthalmology Society.

Having served as the Marketing Officer for the past year, I have gained invaluable experience in promoting our society, engaging with members and other societies, and gaining insight into how the society runs behind the scenes. Ophthalmology is such an intricate and exciting field, and the society has really helped me see that. I want to instil a passion for ophthalmology in others and give back to this society, which is why I am keen to take on a leadership position.

As Vice Chair, my priorities will be to enhance engagement and expand educational opportunities. Ophthalmology society has grown immensely over the past year, having hosted our inaugural conference and I have a few ideas for ways to improve the society even more. We could host events such as networking receptions and educational lectures throughout the year - this would provide more online and in-person opportunities for students to get involved with ophthalmology. I also think another museum visit would be beneficial as it was quite in-demand this year.

With my experience, enthusiasm, and vision, I believe Vice Chair is a role in which I will thrive in and put my all into. I would love the opportunity to help lead the society and grow it even more.
