Ophthalmology: Vice Chair

Hi everyone! I’m Shivani and I’m thrilled to run for Vice Chair of Imperial’s Ophthalmology Society!

I wanted to start off by saying I have really enjoyed being a member of the society this year. Rishi and Michael organised some fabulous events such as the Rcophth museum tour and the conference. These really helped me understand the pathway to Ophthalmology, and I want to make this information more accessible for all years.

My ideas:

👁 Expand Practical Opportunities

Introduce a surgical taster series, allowing students to practice microsurgical techniques like suturing under magnification in beginner-friendly sessions.

👩‍⚕️ Enhance Career Support

Host a "Pathways into Ophthalmology" panel with Imperial alumni, demystifying applications and training + giving advice
Create spotlight posts featuring inspiring ophthalmologists worldwide, sharing insights into their research + practicing internationally

🔬 Boost Research Involvement

Develop a research directory connecting students to ophthalmology projects and audits within Imperial Healthcare NHS Trust, making it easier to gain research experience without endless cold-emailing.

And finally, a bit about me. I am a highly organized and proactive individual, having served as Head Girl at school, where I developed my strong leadership, teamwork, and event-planning skills. My active participation in numerous Ophthalmology Society events, including the museum tour and conference, reflects my strong commitment to the society. With my passion and ability to efficiently coordinate events, I am eager to give society members an engaging and enriching year!
