Oncology: Treasurer

One of the leading causes of death in the world is cancer. This shows how oncology society is important in raising interest to help in the battle against cancer. Through running several conferences, students are introduced to what’s happening in the forefront of innovative surgery and research against cancer.

As the current treasurer of SORA and clinical genetics, I have a vast range of experience in how to be a treasurer, where I have had to fill out numerous risk assessments, look into the spending of the society to ensure we stick to budget and contacted different medical organisations for sponsorship opportunities. All of these will aid me in being the treasurer for Oncology society. Furthermore, as part of the oncology society subcommittee in 2023, I had the pleasure of helping out in the oncology conference, which really made me admire how well these events are run. Hence, inspiring me to run for treasurer, to aid with the running of these events.

As treasurer some of my main aims would be:

  1. Maintaining up to date records of all transactions that have been undertaken
  2. Keeping all parties involved in the loop as to the budget that they are provided
  3. Providing advice on how to stay in budget, having had to overcome the difficult experience of sticking to budget while organising my TedX talks
  4. Aiding the fundraiser officer using the skills I gained from organising my own fundraising events
