Poppy-Valerie Walker

Hi everyone, my name is Poppy-Valerie and I'd love to be BSC Coordinator next year!

I genuinely enjoy teaching, finding it rewarding to pass on my experience and knowledge. Year 4 is a different ballgame, being more self-directed! Tutorials have been very valuable so I'd like to give back. This role appears twofold; being able to efficiently organise a team of older years, and also advising/communicating with the younger years.

Organising Lecturers:
In another society Teddy-Bear-Hospital, I oversaw the Subcommittee for a year, utilising foresight and frequent communication. Finding out members' strengths and directing them productively was an enjoyable task. I’m trigger-happy when sending out and replying to emails, and my current role as School-Liaision-Officer requires me to communicate with, compromise and book school visits for our year's programme, much like organising a team of lecturers.

Teaching and Advice:
Personally I have lots of experience creating slides for various causes(MedEd, MM, etc). Alongside the “warm fuzzy feeling” of helping younger years, this will also be a valuable opportunity for me to personally develop my communication and leadership skills: answering student queries, signposting resources, and offering reminders for deadlines.

I like to think of myself as an organised reliable person, as those who know me will hopefully attest! The experience above has given me much expertise in "spinning the plates." Next year, planning a roadmap will be key, but there is also an important balance between adherence and flexibility which I believe I can navigate effectively.
