Malisha Karunaratne

I am Malisha and I am running for SORA Treasurer.

Attending the SORA conference this year was an inspiring experience that motivated me to take on a role and contribute meaningfully to the society. The Treasurer position is a vital role that requires strong financial oversight, organisation, and teamwork—all of which I am confident in my ability to deliver.

As Sponsorship Officer for the Sri Lankan Society’s Sapphire Ball, I gained valuable experience in financial management, handling sponsorships, securing funding, and ensuring that all event expenses remained within budget. I learned how to effectively communicate with external sponsors and manage financial agreements, skills that are directly applicable to the role of Treasurer.

Additionally, my experience in organizing the Paediatric Society conference has given me insight into the logistics of running academic society events. From budgeting and securing venues to coordinating with speakers and sponsors, I understand the level of planning and financial responsibility required to make an event successful. These experiences have refined my organisational and budgeting skills, both of which are essential for managing SORA’s funds effectively.

As Treasurer, I would ensure the budget is well-managed and advise the committee in delivering high-quality events whilst remaining within the constraints of the budget. Ultimately, my goal is to help the society grow while maintaining financial stability.
