Women in SET: Junior Treasurer

Hi everyone! I’m Siya, a second-year Bioengineering student passionate about tech and women's health.

Did you know that only 14% of the UK's engineering workforce are women? Despite making incredible contributions to STEM, women remain underrepresented in both academia and industry. Supporting women in SET isn’t just about providing them recognition—it’s about ensuring students have access to the funding, opportunities, and networks they need to thrive in traditionally male-dominated fields.

My experience as a fundraising intern for PWF, an NGO focused on educating rural and tribal Indian women about menstrual health, taught me the importance of resource mobilization and efficient financial management in supporting important initiatives, and I’d love to bring these skills to Women in SET.

As Junior Treasurer, I will aim to assist with:

  1. Managing Budgets Transparently – I'll ensure that funds are allocated efficiently, keeping records clear and accessible for future committees.
  2. Expanding Financial Opportunities – I'll work with the Sponsorship Liaison to build long-term industry/alumni partnerships, increasing mentorship and networking opportunities.
  3. Supporting Society Growth – I'll help create a financially sustainable society, allowing us to host more impactful events and reach more students.

With my experience in fundraising and financial management, I’m committed to building a stronger, more well-funded Women in SET together. Looking forward to meeting you all soon!
