Biochemistry: Academic Events Officer

Students in biochemistry have varying ideas of what they want for their future careers. Some have a clear idea of where they wish to end up (whether remaining in life sciences or pursuing a career far away from anything science related). Others have more vague ideas of a career path or have no idea what they want to do once they finish university.

Career and academic events organised by Biochemistry society provide exciting opportunities to explore various career paths. In this role, I would organise more academic talks given by researchers and workers in industry from a variety of relevant backgrounds to ensure everyone feels like there are event opportunities aligning with their ideas for their future. I would also want to provide events particularly for first and second year students to explore what types of careers can be pursued with a degree in biochemistry and how they can best utilise their time at Imperial to prepare themselves for life after university.

Having completed nearly 2 years of my degree, I would love to participate more in biochemistry society. I have been to various events organised by the society and would now love to contribute to organising them. This year I have been the fixture secretary of IC netball and so have been involved in communications with the student union, umpires, and other universities to organise weekly fixtures. This has required organisation and commitment and now I would like to take on a larger role in a different society.
