Biochemistry: Academic Events Officer

Hi everyone! I’m Yuvraj Gupta, a first-year Biochemistry student, and I’m running for Academic Events Officer to make learning outside the classroom engaging, accessible, and—dare I say—actually enjoyable.

Let’s be honest, Biochemistry is fascinating, but sometimes lectures feel like deciphering an ancient scroll. My goal is to bridge the gap between theory and real-world application through events that are informative, interactive, and student-focused.

If elected, I will:

  • Host Research & Career Panels – Hear from professors, postgrads, and industry professionals on groundbreaking discoveries and how to navigate careers in biotech, pharma, and beyond.
  • Organise Extra Lab Sessions – Because let’s face it, pipetting skills (flashblack to the acid phosphatase practical) don’t magically improve overnight. Hands-on experience with advanced lab techniques will give us an edge beyond the standard curriculum.
  • Internship & Placement Support – Workshops on applications, CV building, and networking with alumni who have landed top placements.
  • Collaborate Across Departments – Interdisciplinary events with other science societies to explore biochemistry’s role in fields like medicine, AI, and sustainability.
  • Student-Driven Events – Regular feedback sessions to tailor academic events to what YOU actually want, not just what looks good on a flyer.

Biochemistry may be complicated, but I promise to make academic events as smooth as a well-buffered solution. Vote for me, and let’s bring some excitement—and maybe even some free snacks—to learning outside the lecture hall.
