Ophthalmology: Chair

Hello! I'm Tinu, a 3rd year medical student who'd love to be your ophthalmology chair next year!

If I'm elected, I would be committed to the following:

  • Holding sessions on ophthalmology portfolio building- with speciality training at unprecedented levels of competition, I feel that it's vital to help our members get the best head start towards eventually securing places on specialty pathways.
  • Organising tutorials and talks on ophthalmology topics- not only would this be a great way to learn more about ophthalmology as a field of study, but it would help members perform to the best of their ability on ophthalmology related exam questions.
  • Furthering the society's existing professional network- this is essential to deliver the best possible events and speakers for our members, as well as to facilitate opportunities to connect and collaborate with world leaders in ophthalmology.

Personally, I found my interest in ophthalmology through sheer luck; I was assigned to the specialty at random while completing a work experience placement in sixth form and have been fascinated by it since. I feel that this experience highlighted to me how neglected ophthalmology is at an undergraduate (and earlier) level and I am determined to help more people not only discover this specialty, but also support them in preparing for a career in it. I have a wide range of teaching and leadership experience, including delivering MedEd CSI tutorials and CPA tutoring and would love the opportunity to work with you as chair next year!
