Barna Berczy
Hello everyone! My name is Barna, and I am a first-year Earth and Planetary Sciences student on the Geophysics stream. I am running for Treasurer because I want to ensure the society has a strong and stable financial foundation, allowing us to organize exciting trips and events while keeping them accessible and affordable for all members.
I have prior experience in managing society finances, having served as Treasurer for the Earth Sciences Society at my previous college in Hungary. In that role, I was responsible for balancing budgets, allocating funds for members and society events—including multi-day field trips—and ensuring financial stability. I also actively sought sponsorships, collaborated with alumni and academia to secure funding, and explored scholarships that could benefit both the society and its members.
If elected, I would ensure financial transparency so that members are always aware of how funds are allocated. My focus would be on securing external funding while keeping society expenses well-managed. I would also work towards reducing individual costs for field trips and events, making them more inclusive and widely accessible.
Beyond managing the society’s finances, I am committed to making the Geophysics Society a place where students can fully engage with their field of study outside the classroom. Whether through field trips, site visits, or social events, I want to ensure that financial constraints don’t limit participation. With careful budgeting and strategic funding, we can create more opportunities for students to explore geophysics and connect with peers.
Thank you for your support!
