Janushana Sutharsan

I am Janushana, a fourth-year medical student, and I am standing for position of Publicity Officer for GP Society. I’m passionate about general practice & public health and have actively engaged in several activities aimed at educating the public on health issues. I participated in an interactive asthma stall as part of the Public Engagement Module and Imperial Lates, where people learned about asthma through hands-on activities and discussions. Additionally, I contributed to the Great Exhibition Road Festival, setting up a stall on general health and well-being, exploring creative health practices like dance and meditation.

With experience as Publicity Officer for three other societies (Paediatrics, LMAP & TeddyBear Hospital), I have developed strong skills in managing social media, creating engaging posts on Canva, and increasing participation.

As GP Society’s Publicity Officer, I would like to restart previous ideas such as SBAs Saturdays so students in clinical years can have a go at exam style questions. We can also have speed networking events with professionals from different medical pathways within general practice, allowing students to explore a wide range of career options and specialities in GP. In addition to that, we could have content following committee members during their general practice rotations to give fellow students insights into the field and engage them. As Publicity Officer, I aim to create engaging content and connect students with the diverse opportunities in general practice to inspire and inform them.
