Surgical: Executive Committee Member

Hey everyone,

I’m Raghul, and I am excited to be running for Executive Committee of Imperial’s Surgical Society. As a current Oncology Society subcommittee representative, I’ve organised renowned clinicians to present at the Surgical Talk series, liaised with speakers for our national surgical conference and moderated the Society’s IMT-led lecture series for preclinical students.

Advertising workshops for the National University Respiratory Conference and helping to run the International OesophagoGastric Cancer Conference has taught me how to appeal to delegates. Co-founding Imperial Polygeia, a global health think tank, has honed my skills in developing opportunities for aspiring surgeons.

Chairing my school’s Medical Society has given me a profound appreciation for social interactivity, which I aim to incorporate into Society’s future events. As MedEd’s Phase 1B lecturer, I acknowledge the vital role mentors play in shaping students’ aspirations, so the crucial connections I have made with influential surgeons will be invaluable in inspiring our members.

As your Executive Committee, I intend to:

  • organise panel discussions with pioneering surgeons to morally debate treatment breakthroughs.
  • diversify our workshops to incorporate advanced skills like tumour resection and micro-anastomoses.
  • Collaborate with think tanks to initiate networking opportunities across multiple surgical specialties.

Over the last three years, my intrigue for surgery has been heightened by the limitless opportunities this society has offered. Vote for me, as my utmost priority is to work diligently to ensure this standard is surpassed in the years to come, and provide an enriching experience for the next generation of surgeons. Thank you!
