Hey guys!! I'm Leon, a fresher at Imperial and I'm running for Social Events Officer for 2025-2026. I think the main motivation for me to run for this position this year is that I have realised that whilst other unis' maths societies have been organising a lot of events, this year Imperial mathsoc seems to be lacking some creativity and ambition. And I want to change that.
Firstly I'd like to ensure that every week, mathsoc is to organise at least one activity, whether it be board games night, movie nights, trivia fun, word games, or even team and/or individual based olympiad maths tournaments to compete against your friends. There's just so much more fun ideas, literally you name it and I will try my best to make it happen! Another event that I hope to incorporate is a bounty problem system where we can host "revenges" where maths students propose their own problems, or even make their own exam papers as "mock finals" for the lecturers and professors to attempt, or enlighten first years to challenge year 2 year 3s to their maths knowledge by creating challenges for them to solve. However, drawing inspiration from Warwick, I would try my best to get pub crawls but with lecturers and staffs happen, I really feel like this would be an awesome opportunity for forming connections and networking.
There's just so much more that Imperial Math can offer and I hope to make 2025-2026 one of the best years yet!
