Comfort Oluwakoya

Black & Minority Ethnic Students Officer

Hi, I'm Comfort - your current BME Officer!

I won’t waste time listing my credentials —what matters is the change I want to continue driving as your BME Officer. Too often, I find myself as the only Black person in the room. Representation is more than just presence; it’s about visibility, influence, and belonging. We need to strengthen our collective voice, and I want to ensure that all minority ethnic students feel included.

If re-elected, I will:

Expand Black History Month (BHM) by securing high-profile speakers, interactive workshops, and networking events to make it bigger, better, and more impactful.

Launch the monthly speaker series, which is already in the planning stage, inspired by platforms like Oxford Union. This will bring influential Black and minority ethnic professionals to Imperial for engaging discussions and networking.

Host a large-scale cultural showcase in collaboration with societies such as ACS, TamilSoc, and HinduSoc to celebrate the richness of our cultures through performances, food, and traditions.

Push for Afro-Caribbean food options on campus, ensuring our cultures are represented in everyday student life.

Critically assess the term ‘BME’, working to refine how we represent and advocate for minority ethnic groups.

Expand outreach initiatives, building on my work in A-Level tuition and primary school science workshops to increase Black student intake at Imperial.

Change takes time, but real progress is happening. I've already began working on several of these plans this year and if re-elected, I will ensure these initiatives come to life.
