Yemi Abe

Black & Minority Ethnic Students Officer

Yo, it’s Yemi, and I would love to be your BME Officer!

Let me give you some context—I'm currently studying Design Engineering, and last year, I was the Outreach Officer for the African Caribbean Society. Right now, I’m also on the Black Student Advisory Board.

If you’ve looked around, you’ll notice that only 1–2% of students in each cohort are Black. The representation is clearly lacking, and that’s exactly why I’m here—to advocate for you.

As your BME Officer, I’ll make sure your voices are heard, celebrate different cultures, and work towards building an Imperial community that is inclusive, welcoming, and free from racism and discrimination.

What I’ve got lined up if elected:

  • Rebranding Black History Month at Imperial – Shifting the focus to celebrating Black heritage across the past, present, and future. I’ll also connect these themes with strong campaigns and impactful initiatives.
  • A new web series: Exploring Cultures – A platform to showcase different cultures and ethnicities, not just Black communities but all (BME) backgrounds. This "day in the life" series will increase social media presence and bring Imperial’s diversity to the forefront.
  • And much more!

Why me?

I’ve been a Student Ambassador for the past three years, and I was even featured in Outreach@50: Striving for Representation (check it out on the website!). I know how to drive social impact and advocate for others, and I’m ready to do that for you.

So, I hope this intro got you excited—let’s make change happen together. Yemizino out. 🚀✊🏾
