Disabilities Officer

I’m Amy, a third-year medical student here at Imperial.

As the wellbeing officer for the union disabilities network this year, I've engaged in several initiatives:

    • I participated in the network's forum for Disability History Month.
    • I'm gathering QR codes for course and hall group chats to help increase engagement with the network.
    • I advocated for students with disabilities regarding my faculty's attendance policy changes.
    • I'm collaborating with my faculty to enhance pre-hospital placement information regarding accessibility.
    • I co-founded the neurodiversity society and organized events to raise awareness among other societies.
    • I'm collecting data from neurodivergent students to enhance the accessibility of social events in halls.
    • I presented to faculty members on the need for flexible adjustments to accommodate evolving disabilities and continue to provide input on this initiative.
    • I conducted a group research project to improve the accessibility of VR in medical education.

If elected as disabilities officer, I aim to:

    • Collaborate with DAS to increase flexibility in adjustments.
    • Ensure representation of students with disabilities at Imperial open days, to give accurate insight into available support.
    • Work with hall wardens and seniors to enhance understanding of disabilities among students living in halls.
    • Provide guidance to CSPs on fostering an inclusive culture surrounding disabilites.
    • Establish a dedicated disability officer for the medicine course to address its specific challenges, with potential for similar roles in other faculties.
    • Share information on useful adjustments for various disabilities to empower students find what works for them.

    Thanks for reading 🙂
