Rohan Shenoy
Mathematics (UG): Departmental Academic Representative
Hey everyone!
I'm Rohan, though most know me as Shen. I'm in y3 going into y4.
My main ideas for the department revolve around collaboration. I've been fortunate to work with others a lot, be it through mini projects with lecturers, an ongoing research project through IROP (MIT), being a peer tutor, co-leading the new DRP, and being the wellbeing representative for y3.
If I am elected to represent the student body, I would like to:
- Improve the communication between students and staff. This is already improving, through standard feedback procedures and direct conversation with staff - I am open to new ideas about how we can make the course better for everyone.
- Continue supporting amazing events. Colloquium, MathSoc weeklies, Wellbeing events and different celebrations have been great and I want to ensure they continue getting superb attention and care.
- Formalise the DRP going forwards. I've been co-leading the DRP this year with Ariff and it's been very successful. Next year we can streamline the application and matching processes to ensure even more people can enjoy the DRP.
- Provide more opportunity for younger students to talk to older students. This is already working really well in peer tutorials, but I think there's even more scope for this going forward e.g. through the DRP but also fostering and encouraing more general cross-year communication - I've really benefitted from this when I was younger, and now I want to try and give the same back for the new younger cohorts.
Best wishes,
Shen
