Janice Chan
Hi I am Janice, studying Year 2 Mechanical Engineering, with a passion for sustainability and a deep interest in how it intersects with the food industry. I am applying for the role because I believe my experience and commitment to sustainable practices can help the International Foodies Society promote responsible food consumption and practices.
Throughout my internships, I’ve worked on projects that focused on reducing carbon emissions and implementing sustainable energy strategies, experiences that have deepened my understanding of environmental impact across industries. In particular, as a sustainability consultant, where I collaborated with local schools to reduce fossil fuel consumption, has equipped me with the skills to assess sustainability challenges and develop effective solutions. I also have experience working on broader sustainability initiatives, such as contributing to Santander’s Net-Zero Transition Strategies as a project manager, where I helped design strategies that encourage more environmentally friendly practices across sectors.
In this role, I will focus on promoting sustainable food choices and waste reduction within the society’s activities. I plan to introduce initiatives such as food sourcing from local and ethical suppliers, and educational campaigns to raise awareness about the environmental impact of food production and consumption. My aim is to make food sustainability an integral part of the society, helping members enjoy diverse cuisines while understanding the importance of eco-friendly practices.
With my background in sustainability, leadership experience, and passion for food, I believe I can help the International Foodies Society lead the way in promoting food sustainability on campus.
