“Heal the world, make it a better place- for you and for me and the entire human race,” voiced Michael Jackson in 1992, influencing millions to think about their role in the future of our planet. I'm Neerja, a girl with a cool (self-proclaimed) taste in music and a drive to create positive impact through team-efforts and innovation. Standing for the position of ‘Chemical Engineering: Sustainability Officer’, I look forward to bringing creative ideas to the sustainability forefront of our department. Expanding the use of photovoltaic panels, managing energy consumption, and encouraging sponsorships for advanced research are a few areas I'd like to contribute to through collaborations with coherently inclined societies, companies, and most importantly, student communites.
In the past, I've worked on a few of the sustainable development goals set up by the United Nations through educational initiatives and projects that advocate for accessible healthcare. At university, I’d like to contribute towards 'sustainable cities and communites' (SDG 11) by drafting resolutions that could be adapted in the regular functionings of the department. I'm a strong believer that us ChemEng kids are the right audience for the famous Queen song 'We are the champions, my friends, and we'll keep on fighting till the end'. So, let's triumph this quest for sustainability together and do our bit in bringing sustainable changes to the world around us.
