I would love the opportunity to be involved in Art Society committee as an Ordinary Member. I am in my third year of Medicine and have attended Art Society events since joining Imperial. I have seen how Art Society brings together a wide range of students, and creates unique opportunities for people to work creatively together and learn from each other. In a STEM heavy university, having a space to relax and decompress in a calm, supportive environment is one of the most valuable opportunities Art Society presents. I am eager to be a part of facilitating this atmosphere for students, and provide opportunities for as many students involved as possible.
Last year, I was awarded the Imperial Blythe Art Award. This experience allowed me to work closely with the Blythe Art Department and gain an understanding of the Art facilities and faculty involved. As an Ordinary Member, I would use this knowledge to expand Art Society opportunities, and perhaps focus on identifying spaces for Art showcases and have students be involved in curation. I am also keen on perhaps developing some group exhibition trips.
In senior school, I developed a course involving the inter-school exchange of printmaking skills. This experience gave me organisational skills, and showed the importance of improving access to different aspects of Art. I also learnt how to work reliably within a team, particularly in learning from one another. I would love to bring a similar ethos as an Ordinary Member of Art Society.
