Dermot Mooney
Hello! I’m Dermot, and I’m running for Wellbeing Representative at Design Engineering. My goal is to create a supportive and inclusive communication loop, where students can voice concerns about mental health, share suggestions, and propose social activities to integrate our course more fully.
I’ll work to bridge the gap between our cohort, lecturers, and other year groups and establish an anonymous feedback system to allow students to express concerns without stress, as well as implement regular check-ins to monitor emotional wellbeing throughout the year.
As a sailing instructor who works with youth charities, I have experience fostering environments that encourage open communication, empathy, and understanding. I’m approachable, but more importantly, not afraid to advocate for students who feel uncomfortable or fearful to speak out for themselves. Therefore, I’m dedicated to enhancing both the academic and social aspects of our course to build a tighter-knit, more resilient community.
I will organise regular wellbeing events, including social gatherings, mindfulness practices, and group study sessions during exam periods to support mental health. Hopefully, through this I can foster a more connected student community, which prepares us for future collaborative projects where we may feel more comfortable communicating with one another.
By voting for me, you choose to prioritise a united and mindful student body that values wellbeing as well as academic success. Together, we can make Design Engineering a more supportive and empowering place for everyone.
