Mental health and wellbeing are paramount in ensuring the success of a student's daily life, both in curricular and extracurricular activities. It has become apparent that the Physics department in particular have comparatively poor results regarding student satisfaction and have neglected the importance of catering an engaging yet supportive environment for students.
I will be a liaison between students and staff, working closely with the university wellbeing team whilst fostering an inclusive community. Providing advice on how to cope with upcoming exams and coordinating a healthy study-life balance will be at the heart of my role. If needed I will not hesitate to reach out to personal tutors or further wellbeing support in order to ensure that every student has access to the help they need.
Most notably, I pledge to offer an emotionally supportive voice in times of distress. Creating a non-judgemental space where you will be able to voice your concerns. Whether this involves acknowledging the shortcomings of the department regarding mental wellbeing, or issues of a more personal nature.
I, for one, appreciate the competitiveness of life at Imperial, and empathise with the demanding expectations inflicted on us by ourselves and staff. It is not always easy reaching out to someone when you are struggling, but I would be delighted if I could alleviate some stress and anxiety from your day.
If I am successful in this application, with your help, I will build the foundations for drastically improving on the department's student satisfaction scores.
