As someone who has experienced mental health issues, as well as being neurodivergent, I understand the immense challenges faced by so many of us in the cohort. As we are blessed with such a supportive and tight-knit group, I would like to run for Year One Wellbeing rep, ensuring that the whole cohort can thrive in the best and most supportive environment.
In particular, I want to promote mental health and peer training for those interested and provide translational/culturally sensitive resources for students who may have turned away from the current services due to these barriers. This will be achieved through preliminary questionnaires looking at the current student's attitudes towards well-being services and pinpointing specific barriers that prevent students from accessing them.
Of course, a large part of being at university is socialising and hanging out with your friends! I will organise a series of socials, catered towards extroverts, introverts, drinkers, and non-drinkers alike. As a London local, I can secure all the good spots and discounts!
I believe that although academics is important and can be at the forefront of a lot of us, as a cohort we can promote an atmosphere of camaraderie and I would like to facilitate as a voice between the student body, the well-being team and the wider Materials staff. My previous experience includes being a diversity and wellbeing rep and prefect, as well as organising and speaking out for others in various non-profit settings. I am no stranger to communicating with everyone :)
