Cadence Ong
Hi everyone, I’m Cadence, and I’m running for Year 3 academic representative. Most of you probably know me as the Ed-board girl, but I hope to connect more with you in this role.
Running for academic rep has been a goal of mine, and this year I’ve gathered the courage to put myself forward. I know there are areas in our course that can be improved, but I also understand that we don’t always have the time to fill out lengthy feedback forms. I will streamline the process, focusing on what’s essential to ensure your voice is heard.
Beyond the course, I want to highlight more diverse career options, such as clinical science, healthcare counselling, and teaching—not just biotech, consulting, data analysis and finance. I would also love to share information on the postgraduate applications, university open days, and different courses to support your next steps.
I actually enjoy email communication (yes, it’s a hobby!), which might sound odd, but it means I’m always ready to handle emails and formal communication with staff that many find daunting or time-consuming. In my first month at sixth form, despite being new to the college, I was appointed as the student-teacher liaison. This showed my ability to quickly build strong, approachable relationships with both students and staff, as well as my effective communication skills.
If elected, I’ll be a reliable bridge between students and staff, ensuring your concerns are addressed and your academic experience is improved.
Thank you for your support!
