They say that asking gets you half of the way to obtaining what you want so don’t vote for your friends. Vote for the names you recognize because they were loud when you met them. The ones that shared details about their private life with no reservations and always tried socializing. The ones that were always available to help. These names will be the ones who will create a more united class, and implement the changes expected of an academic rep.
Being completely honest we are all first years here. The promises for whatever changes and availability are mainly empty words that everyone is throwing around, but we don’t know yet who is reliable and who isn’t. If you are like me, student council elections were never truly serious, and who got elected did nothing of value; however, it is different now. We are all part of a community that needs someone with the ability to listen and MOST IMPORTANTLY to speak up without shame, someone who can be “confidently wrong”.
If you’ve had the chance to meet me you will know that when I get passionate about something I keep talking for ages, but this passion and openness is what has always enabled me to engage in sincere and effective conversations with professors. Additionally, what I bring to the table is not only abstract words, but a real set of connections with senior students in all years who can help me identify and fight issues in a concrete way.
