Shivanjaly Varathan
Vannakkam! I’m Shivanjaly and I’d love to be your subcommittee head next year!
After a wonderful year as a subcommittee member, gaining insight into the TSoc committee's inner workings, I’d be honoured to help advance our society.
A strong sense of community is a core value for Tamil people and particularly resonates with me. Thus, as subcommittee head, I will welcome and integrate freshers into ITS. Those who know me are more than aware that I can be quite the yapper, but this makes me approachable and friendly—traits that will help freshers feel at ease when meeting their subcommittee head and wider committee.
As deputy head girl at my school, I was responsible for marketing and events, leading the planning and advertising of prom and a week of cultural events. Additionally, being part of the subcommittee that ran games night and helped gather sponsorship for MM30, I've developed strong teamwork and communication skills.
Team management is not new to me, as I have previously excelled in leading a team of prefects, relaying messages efficiently and ensuring smooth planning of events. This experience gives me confidence in organising bonding activities for freshers, such as a Carrom/karaoke night; we all remember how fun Tasakku Tasakku was- a similar event could help freshers build a close, tight-knit bond. Encouraging older members to attend these events would also foster connections across year groups, promoting a sense of belonging within ITS.
Thank you for reading and I’m honoured to be considered for this role.
