Malaysian: Welfare Officer

Hi ICUMS, I am LeXi, a welfare officer candidate for the Malaysian Society! I am excited to share my passion for creating a warm and welcoming environment in ICUMS. The thoughts of transitioning into university life in a foreign country from Malaysia was daunting to me, but joining ICUMS eased my worries.

I am driven to run for welfare officer because of the warmth and comfort I felt within the community, especially the invaluable friendships and countless memories I have made. I am committed to reciprocate by cultivating a welcoming environment for all students, as well as improving the mental health of all members.

Drawing from the experience as part of the event subcommittee in ChemEngSoc, I believe that I possess relevant qualities and skills to create a supportive environment within the community, making ICUMS a place where students call a home away from home.

As welfare officer, I intend to:

  1. Implement academic-oriented first-year handbook
    • includes the experiences of the second-year students to guide freshers through the initial stages of their academic journey.
  2. Enhance structures buddy family system
    • introduce more fun activities and with attractive prizes to encourage more members to join
  3. Organise events which promotes inclusivity
    • all members feel warmth within the supportive environment
  4. Introduce more well-being events eg. Field Day
    • relieve the stress of members
    • provide them with support system so that members could experience a supportive and warm environment within the community

Thanks for reading, I hope you’ll consider me to be your next welfare officer!
