Mathematics: Career Events Officer

As careers event officer, I want to run more specific events on internships and work placements and I want to provide more information about international work opportunities—this would be particularly helpful for international students who want to have a career in their home country. I also want to organise alumni events so students can understand some of the unique challenges and strengths of graduating with a maths degree.

Specific Goals

  • Organise careers fair in Autumn term, liaise with breadth of maths-focused employers to inform students about possible career paths.
  • Organise internship only careers fair in Autumn term. This would be 20 or so companies from sectors of finance, technology, consulting etc. who are currently advertising internships over the summer or longer internships for graduate students. The fair would be a chance to specifically ask about these internships within the company, e.g. the application process, the specific kind of work etc.
  • Organise an international careers fair in Spring term. The employers would all be international companies, aim is for students to learn about opportunities to work in Asia, America, Europe –opportunities that are not heavily advertised as imperial is based in London.
  • Arrange maths alumni meetings/talks in summer term where students can learn what work recent graduates have done with their maths degree.
