Carolina Moura Bento
Hi everyone! Olá! My name is Carolina, I am a Portuguese Medical Biosciences student and I'm running for the vice-president role for the Portuguese Speaking Society!
Studying at Imperial has been a goal I've been working towards for a long time, however, coming into a new country, new culture, new group of people, was very intimidating and scary. This is where the Portuguese Speaking Society came into play! The cultural societies at Imperial enable us to feel at home, even if far away. With the Portuguese society, we are able to speak Portuguese, watch the best football teams ;), listen to music in Portuguese (Doce, Xutos, Anitta, etc) and eat brigadeiros and pasteis de nata together!
Currently, as vice-chair of the hall meetings from my halls of residence, I actively engage with several subcommittees and, as a team, we organise a wide range of hall events for over 300 residents. Even before this role, I had previously helped organise a variety of socials and talks/academic events, which enabled me not only to practive my organisation but also my team working and budget managing skills.
Therefore, I consider myself a great candidate for the role of vice-president, as not only my enthusiasm for the Portuguese speaking community, but also my skills and dedication will enable me to actively and positively contribute for this society, supporting the president and other members and assuring our events run smoothly and, most importantly, everyone has fun and feels welcomed!
