Ali Berk Birer
Dear Members of the Turkish Society,
I am Ali, a 2nd year Medical Biosciences student and the current Social Secretary. After joining our society, I had the pleasure of meeting with my life-long friends and protecting our culture during this thrilling journey at Imperial. Therefore, to re-establish our values and grow our bond with the London Turks even stronger, I am standing to be elected as the Chair.
Before Imperial, I developed strong connections in Turkey through serving the national sailing team and leading educational & environmental volunteering programs for over 4 years. With a strong academic and athletic background, arriving in London led me to establish strong relationships with the Turkish Embassy, Turkish Forum UK, Young Guru Academy, Turkish business people, and many societies at different universities. Especially in 2023, representing our community in these platforms paved the way for future collaborations.
Within Imperial, I had Trip Secretary, Social Secretary, and Corporate Relations Associate roles at 3 different committees. I firmly believe that sustaining long-term relationships with other societies and grasping the committee politics with my prior experience will facilitate my adaptation and contribution to the Chair position. Through meetings with the Student Union, I have embraced the progress of event/project/society management to the fullest.
This year, I am aiming to
- organise joint socials with sports, music, and cultural societies
- collaborate with Turkish business-people to introduce entrepreneurial ideas and Olimpic athletes to share their stories
- link our society to prestigious London Turk communities and events
